GOVERNOR LALONG SYMPATHISES WITH VICTIMS OF MINING PIT COLLAPSE

The governor made this known through his press secretary Dr Simon Makut Macha

Governor Simon Bako Lalong has sympathized with the families of victims who died as a result of the mining site collapse in Zawan, Jos South Local Government Area on Wednesday 18th December 2019.

Governor Lalong says he is saddened by the death of the young citizens whose lives have been cut short as a result of the tragic incident.
He commiserates with their families and describes the development as unfortunate.
The Governor also directs the Ministry of Mineral Development to immediately investigate circumstances leading to the tragic incident for proper actions to be taken.
He similarly directs the State Ministry of Health to give the injured victims adequate attention and the very best of care possible.
Lalong says the State Government is working to integrate artisanal miners into the licenced and regulated mining programme that adheres to strict procedures in order to avoid such occurrences in the future.
He also warned against illegal mining in the State which he says does not only put the lives of people at risk, but also leads to loss of revenues accruing to Government.
The Governor says henceforth, the Ministry of Solid Minerals and relevant agencies must step up supervision of the sector to ensure that all safety standards are adhered to.

NORTHERN GOVERNOR’S FORUM CONDEMNS EXECUTION OF AID WORKERS

The Northern Governors Forum has condemned the alleged execution of four aid workers by terrorists in North-eastern Nigeria.
Chairman of the Forum and Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong in a statement decried the heinous act, describing it as regrettable and a conduct that will not go unpunished.

Lalong said he was saddened by the development which is not only condemnable, but a crime against humanity and good conscience.
He commiserated with the family and loved ones of the aid workers for the anguish which befell them simply because their relatives offered themselves to serve humanity and help those in need.

The aid workers were reportedly abducted near Damasak, Borno State, in July, and had been in captivity despite all efforts to secure their release and freedom until their alleged execution.
Lalong reiterates that “as Northern Governors, we are determined to continue working with the Federal Government, Security Agencies, the Citizens and all stakeholders in overcoming this evil that is perpetrated by criminally minded persons”
The Chairman urged aid workers and those offering essential services to IDPs and other needy people in the North East and other areas not to be deterred by this set back which cannot be allowed to rubbish the sacrifices and good work that has been put into the fight against insurgency.

Plateau State Governor Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has inspected some of the on-going Legacy Projects and rehabilitation of township roads in the State to ascertain the level of work and also ensure timely completion and quality work.
Governor Lalong began his inspection at the Lamingo Pilot Primary School in Jos North Local Government Area where he was taken round by the Site Manager, Paul Barde who explained that the work has progressed up to 70 percent.
He said the construction firm was making steady progress in the work as most of the class rooms will soon be completed to pave way for furnishing of the school which has a capacity for about 500 pupils.
The Governor who went round the project with the Secretary to the Government of the State Prof. Danladi Atu, Some Commissioners and other top Government officials, said that the Lamingo Pilot Primary School which is one the Legacy Projects was meant to provide quality education for children of the poor who cannot afford private schools.

When this school is completed, the standards will be so high and condition of learning so suitable that many will prefer to bring their children here than to take them to private schools”
Lalong also reminded the contractors of his directive that all public institutions particularly schools be made friendly for physically challenged persons because his administration’s belief in inclusivity being one of the first States to enact the Disability Law and also establish the Disability Rights Commission manned by physically challenged persons.
The Governor thereafter proceeded to Barkin Ladi to inspect work on the 200–Bed capacity General Hospital where he was equally taken round by the Site Manager.

The Governor in his response said “the Hospital when completed will solve the health needs of people of this Local Government and the neigbouring ones because it will be world standard and equipped with the state of the art facilities. We inherited many projects that we completed and we initiated others that are on-going. We have therefore selected some of them as Legacy Projects spread all over the State including this one. Whatever is working elsewhere in the world whether in education or health, we want to replicate it here on the Plateau for the benefit of our people”.

Governor Lalong also inspected on-going operation zero potholes rehabilitation of township roads with a visit to the Rayfiled-Zarmaganda road where he urged the contractor to deliver quality work and within stipulated time to reduce inconveniences to motorists and residents of the area.

I WILL CREATE MORE CHIEFDOMS, DISTRICTS IF THAT IS THE PEOPLE’S WISH” SAYS GOVERNOR SIMON LALONG AS HE INSTALLS 2 TRADITIONAL RULERS

By Peter Akpah

I WILL CREATE MORE CHIEFDOMS, DISTRICTS IF THAT IS THE PEOPLE’S WISH” SAYS GOVERNOR SIMON LALONG AS HE INSTALLS 2 TRADITIONAL RULERS

Lalong in his earlier promise to the people of plateau state to create more chiefdoms, and rural development to enhance the state traditional rule is no dought a reality as he installs 2 more traditional rulers, in Josnorth and Barkin ladi LGA’S respectively this he has done with due consideration and the voices of the masses in the locality.
It was jubilation and celebration all the way as Plateau State Governor Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong fulfilled his campaign promise of restoring, upgrading and creating more traditional institutions in the State as part of the efforts to meeting the agitations of the people spanning many decades.
Governor Lalong began the statewide installation and coronation of new traditional rulers in Lamingo, Jos North LGA where he presented a second class Staff of office to Emmanuel Ajik as the Adagwom Izere Jos.

Governor Lalong said the traditional Institution remains a veritable partner in development of the State particularly in peace and security. He explained that his Rescue Administration decided to follow the wishes and yearnings of the people of Izere whose Chiefdom was truncated by the last administration of Governor Jonah Jang.
He charged the Adagwom Izere to rule with the fear of God, justice and compassion as the people can only follow him if they know that he has their interest at heart.
He said “as the custodian of the culture and tradition of the Izere people, I expect you to uphold the highest virtues of decency, morality as well as be a unifying factor for all the people residing in your domain. From this moment, you cease to be just the father of Izere people or of one particular clan, tribe, denomination or religion. You are the father of all that reside in your domain irrespective of where they come from”.
The Adagwom Izere Emmanuel Ajik described Governor Lalong as an emanciaptor who has kept his campaign promise by restoring their Chiefdom, dignity and sense of belonging.
He promised to continue to support the government and mobilise his subjects to work with the administration in promoting peace and development.
At Ibaas in Barkin Ladi LGA, the Governor installed Da Luka Pagyang Pam as the Gwom Ibaas, a third class Chief where he charged him to see his role as that of a unifier rather than a sectional champion.
Lalong said his administration believes that the issue of Chiefdoms, districts, village and development areas is a constitutional right for citizens.
He said “as a lawyer, I am of the view that no one should stop any group for agitating for a Chiefdom, district, village or development area. If you dont want, that is your right, but dont stop anybody who wants from demanding for it. That is how the demands for local governments and states began and today we are witnesses to how some people have more LGAs than others.
For Lalong, people should not entertain any fear of losing their power and influence over others because Plateau belongs to everyone.
“Under my watch, no body will be treated as a second class citizen or superior to another. We are created equal by God and must learn to live together in peace and unity. Let the majority have their way and the minority their say. I will not tolerate nor support anyone trying to dominate another”.
He however warned that his administration will not hesitate to remove any traditional ruler who is found wanting.
” Let me warn that any traditional ruler who is found to be promoting ethno-religious hatred, injustice, disharmony or shielding criminals will not only be dethroned, but will be made to face the laws of the land” he said.
The Long Goemai of Shendam Miskom Martin Shalders III who spoke for the Plateau State council of traditional rulers said they fully endorse the action of government and they were fully carried along and endorsed all the appointments. He debunked the claims by some mischief makers who say the installations are meant to weaken some existing rulers and cheifdoms. He described Governor Simon Bako Lalong as the man who understands the feelings of his people and is ready to build peace. More traditional rulers are to be installed across the State.

Plateau State is Second Least Currupt State in Nigeria According to NBS Corruption Survey Report

By Peter Akpah

NBS CORRUPTION SURVEY REPORT 2019: WHY PLATEAU IS THE 2ND LEAST CORRUPT STATE IN NIGERIA – GOVERNOR LALONG
Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has welcomed the 2nd Corruption Survey Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which ranked Plateau State as the second least corrupt State in Nigeria.
Reacting to the report, Governor Lalong said the development validates the efforts of his Rescue Administration towards entrenching good governance, accountability and transparency in management of public funds.

He said “on assuming office, I declared my administration’s zero tolerance to corruption and our determination to ensure that public funds are used strictly for the benefit of the people of Plateau”
This he said led him to establish various mechanisms for checking corruption and enhancing transparency in public service.
“We were among the first State in Nigeria to adopt the Treasury Single Account (TSA) where we made sure all monies accruing to Plateau State went to a single account for easy oversight and monitoring. We also established the Efficiency Unit that is saddled with the duty of checking all proposals and requests to ensure that they are in line with the vision of the Government and offer value for the people. We put in place the Bureau for Public Procurement which has the mandate of vetting all procurements to ensure that there is no wasteful and exaggerated costs” he said.
The Governor also explained that recently, he set up the Project Monitoring and Result Delivery Unit (PMRDU) domiciled in the Office of the Chief of Staff with clear mandate to ensure diligent tracking of Projects and Programmes implementation by all the MDAs.
In addition, the State has greatly improved the ease of doing business through the creation of the One-Stop-Shop as well as enhancing land transactions through the Strengthening of the Plateau Geographic Information Systems (PLAGIS) to operate electronically.
All these he explained have contributed to increase in revenue generation as most transactions of the State are done electronically thereby removing the incentives for corruption.
“This declaration by the NBS of Plateau State as the second least corrupt State in Nigeria is great news for us as it explains why domestic and foreign investors, and foreign envoys are pouring into our State to do business and partner with us for various development efforts. In the last two weeks, I received the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, investors from Switzerland, Austria and Germany and just this morning, the Political Counselor at the US Embassy was in my office. We shall continue to make sure that we sustain this tempo and by the grace of God, Plateau State will be the least corrupt State in Nigeria when this survey is conducted next year” the Governor said.
Governor Lalong used the opportunity to thank the people of Plateau State for their cooperation and support to the Rescue Administration in ensuring that there is peace and tranquility which is making development possible.

Embattled Plateau State PDP Chairman Resigns

By Peter Akpah jos

Hon DT Sango finally resign, Hon Sango made this known in a press conference on thursday the 5th of Dbeenecember 2019 at the party secretariat in jos the plateau state capital, according to him he explained the crises that the state chapter our great party has been rocked by a tsunami-like crisis that has threatened its very existence as one united political party.

This followed my purported suspension along with my deputy as Chair and deputy, respectively, by some members the executive committee on trumped up allegations of mismanaging funds meant for the party’s logistics arrangements in the 2019 presidential election in the State.

Following the unfortunate incident, determined to resolve the crisis and get the Chapter moving again, the national leadership of the Party, led by Prince Uche Secondus, set a three-man committee, under the chairmanship of Senator David Mark, to look into the said allegations and advise it accordingly.

The Senator Mark-led committee swung into action immediately, having an interface with individuals and different stakeholder groups within the Party in the State, including Senators Ibrahim Mantu, Jonah Jang and Jeremiah Useni; former Speakers of the State House of Assembly; sitting members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.
The three wise persons, after a painstaking exercise, dutifully submitted their report to the National Working Committee (NWC). On receipt of the report, an interactive meeting between the NWC and selected stakeholders from the state was convened at the Legacy House, Abuja by the National Chairman.
At that August meeting, the National Chairman communicated the following, which were adopted as resolutions:
(i) The Senator Mark Committee did not find me guilty of any financial impropriety, and so I was exonerated of all allegations against me;
(ii) Pursuant to my being exonerated, the group of sixteen executive committee members should write to the NWC, withdrawing their allegations;
(iii) Upon the withdrawal of the allegations, in consideration of the fact that there’s bad blood between me and most of my colleagues in the executive committee, particularly the group of sixteen, and to pave way for peace in the State Chapter, I should step aside as Chairman; and
(iv) In line with provisions of the party’s constitution, my deputy, Hon. Amos Gombi shall be Acting Chairman.
6. Gentlemen of the media, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this explains why we are here this afternoon. The group of sixteen have written to the NWC as resolved, I have been communicated by the NWC accordingly and I have also written to the NWC; the sequence of events is now complete: I am formally stepping aside as the State Chairman of our great Party.
7. However, before I do this, I seek your indulgence to make a few remarks.
7.1 First of all, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the PDP family in the State for giving me the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I do no take my three-year sojourn at the helm of affairs of this great Party in the State for granted.
7.2 Secondly, I would like to place on record my gratitude to the national leadership of the Party for the cooperation I received in my official capacity as State Chairman, for standing by me at my most difficult moments, and for the amicable resolution of the crisis that tended to destroy all that we had laboured to put in place in the last three years.
7.3 You will recall that the present leadership of the Party in the State came on board at a time when the Party‘s standing was at an all time low, having lost the governorship of the State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
7.4 We, thus, had the onerous task of breathing life back into the Party.We did the following, amongst so many other things:
(I) As a first step, while interactions continued informally, we set up a reconciliation committee to assuage aggrieved members, bring back those that left before and after the 2015 general elections, bring back estranged relationships, and recommend steps that would help us move forward, once again. While I will appreciate those that worked tirelessly on the committee later, as I bring this conference to a close, I wish to specially recognize the highly invaluable role played by the Late Barrister Miskom Puepet in this regard.
(II) Conscious of some of the reasons why the APC took power from us in the State, we canvassed and adopted the zoning of the position of governor, deputy governor and speaker for the purposes of the 2019 general elections only, for the first time in the history of the party in the State. It is my hope that we deepen this understanding as we put our house in order and prepare for subsequent elections; and
(III) We came up with a framework that saw us conduct one of the most transparent gubernatorial primary elections in our twenty-one years of practicing democracy in the State.
8. Gentlemen of the media, Party faithful, ladies and gentlemen, I cannot leave the stage without drawing our attention to some developments that have remained pervasive in the last twenty years in the life of our great Party in the State.
9.Although Plateau State is the birthplace of our great Party, its leadership, especially the tenure of the Chairman, has always been dictated by the whims and caprices of some forces. It is on record, and I stand to be corrected, that apart from Chief Raymond Dabo who acted as State Chairman after the exit of Dr. Haruna Dabin, no other was allowed to serve out his term. The self-serving individuals have over the years, through their activities, hindered the optimal functioning of the state leadership, consequently leaving in its trail mistrust among the ranks, and ending up with a fractionalized and factionalized team .My stepping aside this afternoon is a product of such of the activities of such forces that usually feel that the leadership of the Party is there to do their bidding, even at the expense of majority considerations.
10. Let me use this opportunity to specially speak to those of you who may wish to contest certain offices/positions in the future. I have noticed over the years that there is always a tendency of creating confusion within the Party, or outright detection when things don’t go our way, even when primary elections are adjudged free, fair and transparent. Let’s resolve to always join hands with winners in greater interest of the Party.
11. It is my earnest prayer that my exit today shall cause us to resolve that never again shall we allow narrow-focused personal or group interests to determine the tenure of elected leaders of our Party. We cannot afford to have such forced exits (albeit through trumped up allegations, like in my own case) to continue as a common feature of our journey.
12. As I draw this conference to a close, I would like to, on behalf of my colleagues, I extend our depth of gratitude to the following individuals and groups their support and contributions of all forms to making the Party in the State to remain vibrant in spite of being in the opposition:
(i) Senator (General) Jeremiah Useni, our candidate and leader of the Party, for allowing us lean on his broad shoulders; he has, amongst other things, including the welfare of our support staff, ensured that we continue to operate from No. 20/22, Yakubu Gowon Way. He has also remained resolute in the defense of democracy by encouraging our team of lawyers to continue the search for the stolen mandate given him by the Plateau electorate;
(ii) Our esteemed Members of the Board of Trustees from the State: Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Senator Jonah Jang and Ambassador (Sir) Fidelis Tapgun, for allowing us leverage on their goodwill at all times;
(iii) Members of the National Assembly, sitting and past; Senator Istifanus I. Gang, Hon. Beni Lar, Hon. Solomon Maren, Hon.John-Bull Shekarau, Hon. Timothy Golu, Hon. Simon Mwadkwon and Hon. Musa Bagos for their critical interventions to the State Chapter;
(iv) Former Speakers of the State House of Assembly: ET. Hon. George Daika, Rt. Hon. Michael Dapianlong, Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go’ar and Rt. Hon. Titus Alams for invaluable contributions to the Party;
(v) Sitting and former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, for providing guidance to leadership in times of need;
(vi) Our elders who kept coming, giving one advice or the other, to move forward;
