Plateau State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governors Forum, Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated acting President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem on the occasion of her 63rd birthday, 13th June, 2020.

Governor Lalong in a congratulatory message described Justice Monica as a highly blessed woman who has devoted all her life to the service of humanity and promotion of justice, peace and progress.

He said ” This is a special moment in your life where you need to reflect on the mercies of God and thank him for not only sustaining you and your family, but also lifting you to the position of the President, Court of Appeal. As you add more years, we pray that God will give you wisdom, patience and boldness to serve the Nation with diligence, sincerity and fairness”.

The Governor observed that over the years, Justice Dongban-Mensem has left the legacy of excellence and humility in all the places she has worked as well as a positive impression on the people she has had dealings with.

Lalong assured her that Nigerians and in particular the people of Plateau State will continue to pray for her as she carries on this new responsibility which demands absolute commitment and faith.

He also reminded her of the need to continue her humanitarian services and also seek God’s direction at all times.

By Peter Akpah GOVERNOR KIKSTARTS PROJECTS COMMISSIONING.Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has commenced the commissioning of some projects carried out by his administration and the inspection of others which are still ongoing.He commenced the commissioning on Friday June 12th, 2020 where he inaugurated the Operation Rainbow Security and Surveillance Centre at Jos Jarawa (Dutse Uku).
He said the Surveillance Centre is part of reinvigorating the security architecture of the State and laying the foundation for Community Policing which is the focus of the Government.The centre is provided with 2 patrol vehicles and an armoured personnel carrier as well as equipped with surveillance cameras that cover large parts of Jos metropolis.
Lalong said “The world is paying attention and embracing the efforts we have made towards restoring normalcy to Plateau State which has resulted in more investors coming into the State while people who left our Plateau because of the ugly events of the past are coming back. We should always bear in mind that there is no way that peace can be legislated or forced on people. Only a genuine desire to cultivate and nurture peace can lead to lasting peace in any society”.He also laid the foundation for another one at Bauchi Ring Road as part of the consolidating the security and peace of the State.
The Governor inspected some primary school classroom blocks within the gold and base area in Rayfield where he described the quality of work as commendable. He said so far, his administration has constructed 639 primary and junior secondary schools and renovated another 724 across the 17 local Government Areas of the State.
He also commissioned an office block at the State Universal Basic Education Board where he flagged off the distribution of 55,985 Tables and chairs to all schools in the State. He praised the agency for carrying out its functions diligently and turning around the poor condition of the schools that were inherited from the last administration and also constructing new ones.He said “In the preceding year, government has paid over 4.2 billion naira as counterpart funding of the Basic Education Programme in Plateau State.The impact of all these can be seen in the transformation of school buildings and provision of conducive teaching and learning environment like the one we are commissioning here today”

Member representing Jos South/Jos East, Dachung Musa Bagos appreciates Constituents for unalloyed support

The member representing Jos South/Jos East in the National Assembly, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos is appreciating the good people of his Constituency, and the good people of Plateau State who have shown commitment and faith in his mandate.

Reacting to his one year in office, the legislator recalls with nostalgia the consolidated support which his
constituents showed before, during and after the elections.

He further reiterates that with such outpour of love and support, he pledged his commitment to improve and impact more on the lives of the next generation so as to make Nigeria a better nation; Plateau State, a more profound society and his Constituency, a more prosperous community.

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has rejoiced with the 9th State House of Assembly on its first year anniversary under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Nuhu Ayuba Abok.
Governor Lalong in a congratulatory message said the legislative arm of Government has remained proactive, thorough and responsive in carrying out its duties of law making and oversight.
He said “The 9th House has demonstrated that it is made up of Honourable Members who have the interest of their constituents and the entire State at heart. They have given due attention to passing laws that have direct impact on the citizens of the State in the last one year”.
Lalong also described their conduct as exemplary because they have consistently extended a collaborative spirit in all engagements with the Executive arm and heads of MDAs in the course of carrying out their duties.
He particularly commended them for diligently scrutinizing and passing the 2020 budget on time and also supporting the fight against COVID-19 19 as well as measures taken to address the economic and health impact of the disease.
He wished the Assembly a fruitful engagement ahead as they continue to serve the people of the State and contribute to the consolidation of the Plateau Rescue Mission.

Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin, who is facing murder charges in the fatal arrest of George Floyd, was granted bail Monday at his first court appearance.

Chauvin is facing charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death. The former officer appeared in the Hennepin County court through video conferencing from prison, wearing an orange jumpsuit and blue mask.

Plateau State Governor and Chairman, Northern Governor’s Forum, Simon Bako Lalong has congratulated Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, Nigeria, His Grace, Most Rev Dr. Matthew Ishaya Audu on his 61st Birthday.
In a congratulatory message, Governor Lalong described the Archbishop as an epitome of humility, selflessness and godliness.
He said “His Grace, is a man that is well-loved for many reasons. He stands for truth and justice and always speaks for the poor while reaching out to them at every available opportunity. He continues to inspire us all with the word of God and also living an exemplary life”.
While wishing him God’s protection and good health, Governor Lalong said the people of Plateau State particularly Catholics are happy to have him in the State again after his early years of service on the Plateau.
In another development, Governor Lalong has also congratulated Her Lordship, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Acting President, Court of Appeal over her nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate for confirmation as substantive President, Court of Appeal.
Lalong who had on Sunday during the Church service to mark the 2020 Democracy Day and 5th year in office at the Government House Chapel in Jos asked the citizens of the State to pray for her confirmation, expressed appreciation to the President for doing the needful.
He expressed belief that with her pedigree, she is going to do the Nation, Plateau State, her family and the Judiciary proud by upholding the tenets of justice, truth and integrity.
Governor Lalong also thanked the National Judicial Council for recommending her and wished her well as she prepares to undergo screening at the Senate, saying he has no fear that she will give a good account of herself as she has done in the past.
He called on the Senators representing Plateau State at the red chambers to give her all the necessary support needed to have a smooth screening exercise.
