Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong on Wednesday inaugurated the technical committee for the domestication of community policing framework in the state .
The who has called for community policing to help to reduce the attacks witnesses by the state over the recent time seeks to use the opportunity to help reduce crimes in the state, as he said his administration work so hard to restore peace back to the state and he can’t allow his efforts to be wasted by some unknown element and at the end when he called for who are the perpetrators of the attack only to be told unknown gun men, lalong has earlier told the security chiefs that he will no longer take excuses of unknown gunmen.
Lalong said his desire is to explore ways towards undertaking a wholistic overview of the prevailing security challenges in the State, with specific reference to a community-policing model that can better respond to public safety and security, and early warning signs and rapid response by the security.
Governor Lalong said after the frank work open and solution-driven interaction that involved resource persons, heads of security agencies, Community and Traditional Rulers, the meeting came up with far reaching recommendations, among other things, participants agreed that Community Policing as a veritable security option should be pursued at all levels, while Operation Rainbow should be strengthened to be a visible channel for intelligence gathering and response.
“Most importantly, the communique recommended the setting up of a Technical Committee by Government to harmonise the presentations and evolve a more sustainable Community Policing Framework for immediate implementation in the State.”
He said the terms of reference of the Technical Committee is to develop a framework for the domestication and implementation of Community Policing Model in ways that align, compliment or strengthens Operation Rainbow and other Community Security outfits such as Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Groups.
Lalong further called on the members of the committee to determine the organizational structure in terms of composition and roles at the State, Local Government, Districts, and Community levels respectively as well as outline and suggest funding modalities to ensure sustainability of the framework.
He charged members of the committee to develop clear and coherent framework and guidelines for the operation of Community Policing in Plateau and to come up with any other recommendation that will ensure the effective implementation of Community Policing as a credible alternative to the conventional security approaches to the problem of insecurity in Plateau State.
“We have to be ahead of the criminals that seem bent on testing the resolve of Government by evolving new strategies that are grassroots-based and capable of putting them out of business.”
“ Government shall provide all that you need to enable you carry out this assignment effectively. Therefore, I urge you to be objective and put the interest of our State above any other consideration.”
The Committee is chaired by Barr. Chris Ahmadu the Attorney-General of the state ,other Members includes Prof. Dakas C. Dakas , Representative of Commissioner of Police amongst other persons .
