Covid-19: Plateau State Govt Urge Citizens To Adhere To Health Protocols.

With the resurgence of COVID-19 and increase in the number of people being affected by the virus, the Plateau State Government has called on Citizens to adhere strictly to laid down health protocols in order not to be infected by the Virus.

The government expressed dissatisfaction over inability of the citizens to stick to health protocol aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.

The Commissioner of Health, Nimkong Lar made the disclosures at an interaction with Press Men today.
He said the State recorded 186 New Cases in 5 Days.

“People are not adhering to COVID-19 Protocols as they go to public places without preventive aids”

“People are nonchalant and indifferent about COVID-19, but i want to call on them to take responsibility and adhere to all health protocols” he said.

He admonished the people not to be careless as they go about their engagements in the yuletide season.

Dr. Lar said the Executive Governor, Barr. Simon Lalong who tested positive for the virus is in stable condition in self isolation and asymptomatic. He said so far the Governor has carried out 3 COVID-19 Tests.

Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang said people must exercise caution and stay safe.
He expressed dismay that Religious institutions in the State are not complying to laid down protocols as they don’t observe social distancing, people don’t wear face masks; no provision of water, soaps for washing hands and hand sanitizers.
Hon. Manjang said the present situation has not warranted government to impose lockdown in the State. He appealed to the citizens to obey all health protocols and maintain personal hygiene. He said the State Government is a responsible government but may put measures if people continue to contravene guidelines.

The ‘Woman Arise’ 2020 conference commenced today in Jos the Plateau state capital.Woman Arise is an annual event organized by the Total Woman Foundation (TOWOF) an NGO founded by Ngo Felicia Gyang who is also its President.

The three days program, starting from today with the theme, “My Change has come” would witness series of events including ministrations from anointed men and women of God including Rev James Ahmadu of Harvest Rock ministries and Pastor Rebecca Akpama, Priesthood Global Ministries, Jos. The venue of the program is TOWOF office, plot 499 Yakubu Gowon Way, adjacent NTA Jos.

Time is 2pm Friday, Saturday December 18 and 19, and 10am, December 20, 2020.TOWOF’s vision is to teach, train and equipped women to fulfill their mandate as wives, mothers, members of the Church and agents of change in the society.

Governor Lalong Test Positive To Covid-19, Goes into Isolation.

GOVERNOR LALONG TESTS POSITIVE TO COVID-19, GOES INTO ISOLATION.

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has tested positive to COVID-19 following a test he and members of his family carried out.

The test result indicated that Governor Lalong’s test returned positive while all members of his family tested negative.

Consequently, the Governor who is asymptomatic has gone into isolation while his close aides are being tested.

As a result, the Governor will henceforth work from home during the period of treatment.

All State matters requiring the Governor’s physical presence will be handled by the Deputy Governor.

The Governor uses the opportunity to urge all citizens of Plateau State to observe all COVID-19 protocols as the pandemic is still prevalent.

He advises citizens to apply all precautionary measures especially during the festive period by avoiding large gatherings, using facemasks, washing hands with soap and water and adhering to personal hygiene measures.

College Of Education Gindiri Gets New Acting Provost.

GOVERNOR LALONG APPOINTS ACTING PROVOST, COLLEGE OF EDUCATION GINDIRI

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has approved the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Jurte as Acting Provost of the College of Education Gindiri, following the expiration of the tenure of the Sole Administrator, Monsignor Prof. Cletus Tanimu Gotan.

The Acting Provost is to oversee the affairs of the Institution pending the conclusion of the process for the appointment of a substantive Provost and other principal officers which is already in process.

Until his appointment Mr. Jurte was the Dean, School of Social Sciences and
Chairman, Committee of Deans of the College.

Meanwhile, Governor Lalong has expressed appreciation to Monsignor Prof. Cletus Tanimu Gotan for his commitment, dedication and sacrifices during his stewardship which greatly assisted in repositioning the institution.

He said the clergyman deployed his vast academic and administrative knowledge in addressing some of the challenges of the College which culminated in holding the 28th-33rd Combined Convocation of the institution in 2019.

The Governor also commended him for also ensuring the accreditation of more courses at the institution as well as enhancing teaching and learning.

And speaking to some people at the community who also witness the incidence also complain about the way the governor is behaving about the kidnapping issues in the state and from their own understanding most of the security agencies are handicap because most of them don’t have enough vehicle to tackle most of the emergencies and distress calls they receive because of lack of fuel or vehicles and other logistics and if not for the help of the operation safe haven the STF the insecurity in the state will be very high than this he said and the governor is not helping matter and also why can the governor provide the security agencies and the neighbourhood watch vehicle and fuels to help in tackling crimes and intelligent gathering and prompt response before the security agencies arrive at any emergency and also why can the government provide CCTV cameras as they did during the civid-19 and also encourage the neighbourhood watch and community policing and also mount cameras that can checkmate most of the activities of the criminals and the kidnappers and also mount checkpoints across all the areas that kidnapping and criminal activities is taking place across the state and the government should continue to engage relevant stakeholders to monitor the inflow of people coming in to the state and outside the state and check their activities and know what they do for a leaving he said.

Rural Kinds Being Thought On IT in Plateau by an Expert.

About 110 rural children have completed training in digital literacy in Plateau, to expand market opportunities for local businesses and innovators, Officials say.

The kids had no knowledge of the computer. But they were hand-picked and trained for several weeks, as a first step to solving inequality between rural and urban children, Mr. David Daser, the Director General, Plateau State Information Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA) told sourcenews.24

In his words, “Each time we talk about automation in schools, hospitals, e-commerce and all other IT innovations, we forget about inequality.

“The urban kids have access to internet and computer and can use them anytime. But the rural kids are deprived of all of these.

“What we are trying to do is to identify these deprived kids and give them basic digital knowledge. This is what we have done with these 110 but this is just the first step. We will examine them and see where next to go.”

The pilot phase of the training in Kagu village, in Pankshin South constituency, will be replicated all over Plateau State, said Mr. Daser. But finances are a threat, he said.

“We are networking with community influencers and representatives to fund the training while we provide the expertise and equipment,” said the IT Official.

Kids also trained using Covid-19 Safety measures receiving training.

“We want a situation where every child will be digitally literate so that the urban child will not have an edge over the rural kid in terms of attempting jamb questions and other basic IT activities,” added Mr. Daser.

Digital literacy, according to Daser will ultimately improve economic prospects for the State.

“The goal of PICTDA is to increase awareness and skills for the youths to explore economic opportunities in the IT sector.

“In addition, the more citizens are digitally literate, the more businesses can sell goods and services.

“If you have only 100,000 people that are digitally literate, it means you can only market your goods to these 1000 but when you increase to 500,000, you have increased the consumer market for such products to 500,000 targets.”

PICTDA had trained about 150 youths in digital marketing and about 45 in software development.

It currently has over 2000 applications for the same training and it is mobilizing resources for it.

Part of the training by PICTDA is responsible Internet usage, which would be isolated in a special radio program, “IT on Radio” starting next Tuesday on Highland 101.5FM Jos. The program will solve hate speech and fake news on social media, said Daser.
