Lalong Inspects Facilities At The State Isolation Centres And Orders Purchase of Ventilators

PLATEAU GOVERNOR INSPECTS COVID-19 ISOLATION FACILITIES, ORDERS PURCHASE OF VENTILATORS, OTHERS.

Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State has undertaken a visit to isolation facilities in Jos to ascertain their preparedness in handling Corona virus cases in the event of any confirmed incident.
Governor Lalong began his inspection visit to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (Juth) where he was received by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Edward Banwat who took him round the facilities. He first inspected the laboratory for production of hand sanitizers at the hospital where he was told that they have the capacity to meet the demands of the State and beyond.
At the Isolation Unit, he was informed that the facility has capacity for 20 patients at a time with room for expansion. However the facility has only two respirators which are grossly inadequate.

Governor Lalong immediately directed the acquisition of 4 additional ventilators to increase the capacity of the facility.
Governor Lalong also visited the Plateau Public Health Emergency Centre located at Lugard Road, Jos where he was shown the tracking capacity covering the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
Governor Lalong was also at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos to inspect the isolation facility of the hospital. He was taken round by the Chief Medical Director Prof. Eswin Isiegbe who said the centre has a capacity for 10 patients and is in need of equipment and consumables such as ventivalors, respirators. He also took the Governor round the infectious disease facility being constructed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control in the Teching Hospital which he said would increase the capacity of the institution to handle such cases.
Governor Lalong promised to provide 2 ventilators for the Isolation Centre and also assist the hospital build capacity for effective response.
At the Plateau Specialist Hospital Jos which is the third designated isolation facility for the treatment of Corona virus in the State, Governor Lalong was recieved by the Chief Medical Director Dr. Philemon Golwa who informed him that the facility has capacity for 20 beds with room for expansion. However, the challenges of ventilators, respirators and

manpower was also raised which the Governor immediately promised to address as he directed the purchase of 2 ventilators for the centre.
Governor Lalong later spoke with journalists where he expressed satisfaction with the State of preparedness of the State to respond to the Corona virus disease. He said “we thank God that so far, we do not have any confirmed case in Plateau State, yet we have to prepare ahead looking at what is happening in other States and outside the country. We shall do everything possible to ramp up our capacity to respond effectively as we did with Ebola and with lassa fever which we have contained very well”.

The Governor however appealed to the citizens of Plateau State to cooperate with the directives of Government and relating to ban on large gatherings and closure of schools as well as personal hygiene and contact.
He warned that the Government will not hesitate to deal decisively with anybody who violates the directives of Government aimed at protecting the citizens of the State from the dreaded disease.

Rep. Bagos Offsets School Fees for All Female Students of BUTECH, Distributes Books to Students

REP BAGOS PAYS SCHOOL FEES FOR ALL THE FEMALE STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT TECHNICAL COLLEGE, BUKURU, DISTRIBUTES HUNDREDS OF EXERCISE BOOKS TO THE STUDENTS.

Months ago, Hon. Bagos was at Government Technical College, Bukuru (BUTECH), situated in Kuru District of Jos South LGA; and he stumbled upon a few girls who had chosen to study in fields that are highly masculinized, in a school scarcely ever attended by women.

Bagos who was highly impressed by their bravery, took it upon himself to encourage them for daring to tow the unpopular path, by granting them one term scholarship each, as well as registration fees for those of them who intend to seat for NECO examination.

Team Bagos, headed by Hon. Ezekiel Nyam, the Chief Laison officer of the constituency office, went to the school to fulfil that promise.

Speaking on behalf of Rep. Bagos who was unavoidably absent, Hon. Ezekiel Nyam in his speech, noted that this gesture is simply to spur on the girl child as well as encourage aspiring youngsters to keep striving to achieve great things in life. He then shared receipts of the payed school fees to the beneficiaries.

Hon. Job Manja then led team as they shared the books provided by Hon Bagos to the students.

The vice principal of the school, Mr Mutong Cephas, on behalf of the principal and staff, thanked Hon. Bagos for finding their school worthy to enjoy the dividends of his representation.

Plateau State Government Ordered The closure of Schools Due to Covid-19

The general public is aware of the corona virus (covid-19) pandemic ravaging the globe, and the federal government has given directive for the entire country to take preventive measures to safeguard the lives of the citizens

And it is in this regard that the Plateau State government held a stakeholders meeting it is in light of the above that the plateau state government held an enlightenment session with critical stakeholders such as traditional rulers, religious leaders, elders, ncws and Medical experts to find a solution and take necessary measure to prevent the state for any out break ,

The meeting was chaired by the deputy governor prof sunny Tyoden, and the SSG Prof Danladi Atu, the chief of staff and commissioners and permanente secretaries, The stakeholders meeting is to give the situation report of the out break of the corona virus (Covid-19 ) and preventive measures and after much deliberation, the permanent secretary ministry of health said plateau state government has provided 2 Isolation centres in JUTH and Benham University teaching hospital, and plateau has not recorded any case of corona virus (Covid-19) the permanent secretary said plateau State government and the ministry of health are going to train more medical personnel in rural areas on how to check and sensitize people the possible preventive measures to take not to spread the virus and also on good hygiene,

The chief medical director plateau state specialist hospital Dr Gwolwa in his remarks said the virus can be taken care of if only we keep away from bad habits such as open contact and not washing our hands regularly, he said lasa fever and Ebola are more deadly than the corona virus, the difference the corona (Covid-19) is human to human transmission and he said out of 30% of persons that has contacted the corona virus get out of it cured, so no need for any panic only simple hygiene of washing our hands and avoiding crowdy places will help us. he also said so far the hospital has 2 Ventilator Machine which was provided to them by Redeem Christian Church and also call on the government to provide more as each of the ventilator machine cost about 7million naira, and the ventilator help in times of difficulty in breathing which is one of the common Symtoms of the corona virus.

The CMD JUTH Dr Edward Banwat said JUTH has one of the best isolation centres in the country that is where the have been treating people with lasa fever and also urge the government to support so that they can have more Ventilators machine.
At the end of the meeting plateau state government came out with a communique
1. That all public and private schools and tertiary institution in plateau state he closed with immediate effect.
2. Worship centres, Churches and mosques must reduce congregation with a spacing of 2 meters interval and to provide running water soap and senitizers at their entrances.
3. Motor parks, hotels, markets and super markets should maintain 2 meters spacing and provide running waters, and soap and senitizers at the entrance.
4. Marriages and burial should be restricted to the family members and crowd of not more than 50 persons with 2 meters spacing.
5. Anniversaries and cultural festivals are hereby suspended.
6. All crowded social gathering to be avioded, and face mask usage is encouraged.
7. All Taxis, Buses, Tri-cycles, must have hand sanitizers.

Accordingly the state government is appealing to the good people of plateau state to adhere strictly to the above as corona virus is a serious pandemic and will not be treated with kid gloves please.

Governor Lalong Celebrates Steve Gukas a Plateau Film Maker

GOVERNOR LALONG CELEBRATES PLATEAU FILM MAKERS STEVE GUKAS/ UREN MAKUT, PROMISES MORE SUPPORT FOR CREATIVE INDUSTRY.

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has again restated his willingness to support the creativity of Plateau citizens who continue to break records in the arts and entertainment industry.
Lalong said this is a statement where he congratulated veteran film Producer and Director Steve Gukas over his latest breakthrough at the Africa Magic Viewer Choice Awards where his movie, ‘ Living in Bondage’ won the Best Overall Movie Award at the 7th edition of the event in Lagos.
Lalong described the feat by Steve Gukas as another testimony of the abundant talent that Plateau State is blessed with which his administration will continue to support for economic and social gains.
He said ” Steve continues to break the records in the entertainment industry and is an example of the true Plateau spirit that thrives on creativity, excellence and hard work. He has not only made us proud, but also continues to inspire and mentor many younger talents in the creative industry. We are proud of him”.
On the night of glamour when the awards were held in Lagos, Steve Gukas’ work won awards for; Best Cinematography, Best, Sound Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Soundtrack, Best Movie West AFRICA,
Trailblazer Award for Lead Actor,
Best Director, and Best overall Movie.

Similarly, Governor Lalong has congratulated another up-coming Nigerian filmmaker and citizen of Plateau State, Miss Uren Makut who has been selected among ten Africans to participate in this year’s UNESCO-Nara Residency for Young African Female Filmmakers in Japan.
Miss Makut, a 27year-old Director and Producer, creator of a training centre for young filmmakers from Plateau State was recently announced among the ten winners by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, and Japanese filmmaker Naomi Kawase, in a side event of the 13th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Paris.
Makut is the only winner from Northern Nigeria, selected along with a scriptwriter and assistant director, Moyowa Bakare from Southwestern Nigeria.
The two from Nigeria will join their fellows from Burkina Faso, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa, in residence in Tawara, in Nara Prefecture, from 29 March to 12 April this year.

PROF. DAKUM SHOWN: LALONG GRIEVES OVER DEATH OF FIRST PLATEAU STATE SPEAKER.

Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has again expressed deep sorrow over the demise of one of the illustrious sons of the State and elder statesman, Prof. Dakum Shawn who died after a protracted illness.
Dakum Shown, an academic and politician, was the first Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly who held office in the Second Republic from 1979 to 1983 during the administration of Chief Solomon Daushep Lar.
Governor Lalong said “its another great loss for the people of Plateau State as one of its finest politicians is called to glory. Prof. Dakum Shown was an honest, patriotic, fearless and competent person who gave his all to every assignment he handled. He left so many legacies in the socio-political landscape of the State and the Nation having impacted many positively “.
The Governor recalls his role in laying the foundation for sound education in Plateau State and Northern Nigeria, as the first Nigerian Principal of the famous Girls High School Gindiri (GHS) where he taught and mentored many young persons that are today contributing positively to the society.
His political experience and contributions according to Governor Lalong have also enhanced the fortunes of democracy in the State and Nigeria as a whole. He praised his contributions to the development of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS where he was once its Chairman.
Lalong while consoling his immediate family, friends, well wishers and associates, asked them to take solace in the fact that late Prof. Shown lived a fruitful life and raised many who will carry on his legacies.

Lalong Mourns Northern Secretary General of CAN Danladi Yerima

GOVERNOR LALONG MOURNS NORTHERN CAN SECRETARY-GENERAL DANLADI YERIMA

Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governor’s Forum Simon Bako Lalong has expressed deep shock over the demise of the Secretary General of the Christian Association of Nigeria, 19 Northern States and the FCT, Danladi Yerima.
Lalong in a condolence message described the late Danladi Yerima as one who stood firm in pursuing the cause of Christianity and the gospel of salvation in Northern Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
The Governor noted that “Danladi Yerima lived a life of selflessness and complete devotion to the teachings of Jesus Christ as he contributed his quota to the propagation of the gospel to many as Secretary General of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Northern Nigeria. He was a man who stood for unity, peace, justice and tolerance in all his dealings”.
Lalong therefore commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Christian Association of Nigeria and the entire Christian community in the region and country over the loss of one of its committed members who did a lot for the body of Christ.
He asked them to be consoled by the good legacies he left behind in the various fields of endeavour he occupied especially his professional career, Community Service, social activism as well as the Adara Development Association (ADA) where he was one time President.
